요약 : This dissertation seeks to establish a middle position between the extremes of covenant amillennialism and classical dispensationalism concerning the relationship between Israel and the church in the book of Acts. We argue that Israel as a nation retains its place of privilege as the people through whom God works to accomplish his plan of salvation. A division occurs among individual Israelites in the church age. Unbelieving Jews are cut off from participation in the blessings of salvation, but believing Jews experience the fulfillment of promises given to them and become the foundation of the church. The ecclesiology of Acts maintains a distinction between Israel and the Gentiles. Gentiles do not become spiritual Israelites in the church, instead, they share as Gentiles with the promises given to Israel. In the church they are separate but equal. The church does not take over the privileges of Israel to become spiritual Israel. The Gentile mission is grounded in the Old Testament, initiated by God, and is not the direct result of Jewish obduracy. The Jewish mission is not a total failure and is never officially ended in Acts. Luke's view of Israel is positive, historical, and certainly not anti-Semitic.

요약 : This thesis is developed through an exegetical study of six speeches in Acts which are directed to the Jewish people (Acts 3:12-26, 7:2-53, 10:34-43, 13:16-47, 15:13-18, and 28:25-28) with special emphasis on the Old Testament quotation of Deuteronomy 18:15-19 in Acts 3:22-23, Isaiah 49:6 in Acts 13:47, Amos 9:11-12 in Acts 15:16-18, and Isaiah 6:9-10 in Acts 28:26-27, in addition to an analysis of the following theological terms: Israel, the Jews, people, seed, Hellenists, Gentiles, and God-fearers.

요약 : After a study on the meaning of the church in Acts, chapter 2 surveys a history of the positions on Israel in the book of Acts, and identifies the current impasse in Lukan ecclesiology. After the exegetical analysis, chapter 9 shows that this theology is consistent with the theology of other New Testament passages such as John 10:16; Romans 2:28-29, 9:1-29, 11:1-32, 15:7-13; Galatians 6:16; Ephesians 2:11-22; Philippians 3:3; and 1 Thessalonians 2:15-16.
