■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  ministry  focus  paper  is  to  develop  a  systematic  strategy  for  mentoring  people  called  to  ministry  within  the  Church  of  God  (Anderson)  in  Florida.  The  scope  of  the  paper  is  to  include  those  called  to  ministry  from  high  school  to  mid-life  and  beyond.
■520    ▼aThe  need  for  a  systematic  mentoring  program  for  pre-licensed  persons,  licensed  persons  and  people  transferring  from  other  fellowships  is  critical  to  ensure  the  preservation  of  those  called  to  ministry.  It  is  also  needed  to  enhance  the  quality  of  leadership  being  provided  Church  of  God  congregations  in  Florida.
■520    ▼aThis  paper  will  be  presented  in  five  basic  sections.  The  first  chapter  deals  with  the  theological  basis  for  mentoring  from  the  biblical  text.  An  overview  of  several  Old  Testament  and  New  Testament  mentoring  relationships  will  be  studied.  The  theological  implications  derived  will  be  a  framework  for  the  developing  of  mentoring  relationships  in  this  paper.
■520    ▼aChapter  2  covers  the  mentoring  role  and  the  selection  and  role  of  the  mentoree.  This  chapter  is  foundational  for  understanding  how  the  mentoring  relationship  is  established  and  how  the  mentor  and  protégé  interface  with  one  another.
■520    ▼aChapter  3  deals  with  the  methodology  of  the  mentoring  relationship.  The  mentoring  experience  will  be  discussed  with  emphasis  on  making  the  mentoring  relationship  work  in  practical  ways.  A  list  of  mentoring  resources  will  be  provided.
■520    ▼aChapter  4  will  cover  previously  taken  surveys  to  evaluate  the  desire  for  mentoring  in  the  lives  of  high  school  students  heading  for  ministry  and  the  willingness  of  pastors  to  mentor  them.
■520    ▼aThe  final  section  will  be  contexualized  to  the  specific  needs  of  the  Florida  General  Assembly  of  the  Church  of  God  to  develop  a  mentoring  strategy  for  all  called  people  who  come  into  the  state  to  serve  as  pastors,  associate  pastors  or  missionaries.  Mentoring  tracks  will  be  developed  so  that  they  are  tailored  to  the  mentorees  needs.  There  will  be  covenants  suggested  for  mutual  accountability.
■520    ▼aThe  goal  of  this  paper  is  to  present  a  strong  case  for  the  establishment  of  a  strategic  plan  for  mentoring  those  called  to  ministry  in  the  Church  of  God  in  Florida.  It  will  hopefully  lead  to  implementation  of  the  plan!
