■520    ▼aMany  new  members  are  entering  the  Parkside  Church  of  Christ  with  little  knowledge  of  expectations  or  a  nominal  sharing  of  their  gifts  and  ministry  interests.  At  present,  there  exists  no  system  to  prepare  these  new  members  for  the  Parkside  Family.  Without  assimilation  into  the  body,  many  of  the  new  members  serve  the  Lord  in  a  limited  fashion  or  leave  the  church  permanently.  Such  a  condition  causes  the  Body  to  become  anemic  and  the  Church  suffers  with  unfulfilled  and  atrophied  Christians.  Due  to  a  highly  mobile  society,  and  the  need  for  a  set  of  strategies  for  entrance  into  the  body,  many  Christians  never  realize  their  full  participation  and  usefulness  of  their  God-given  gifts.  The  result  is  a  failure  to  join  the  Parkside  community  of  faith.  There  have  been  too  many  casualties  and,  thus,  the  relevance  of  this  Doctor  of  Ministry  Project.
■520    ▼aThis  project  will  prepare  members  of  Parkside  to  effectively  help  persons  becoming  members  of  the  body  to  better  understand  the  New  Testament  meaning  of  church  membership.  The  incorporation  of  new  members  will  allow  them  to  enter  an  environment  of  love,  encouragement,  and  community  while  deacons,  ministry  leaders,  and  ministers  the  meaning  of  assimilation  into  the  local  church.  Biblical  foundations,  theological  reasons,  and  guidelines  will  be  supplied  for  teaching  the  new  member.
■520    ▼aThe  problem  stated  plainly  is:  we  are  not  keeping  our  new  members  through  their  conversion  process  to  bring  them  to  a  mature  and  complete  discipleship  state  of  being.  In  short,  the  back  door  is  not  closed!  Because  of  the  open  back  door,  we  are  constantly  seeing  new  or  relatively  new  members  leaving  to  become  idle  or  seeking  a  new  place  to  worship.
