초록/해제
요약 : This project reflects theologically upon the life the author has lived within the orbits of two life-changing communities: the Christian church, and the Korean American Young Women's Christian Association. Nurtured by the former, but ignited by the latter, the project seeks to bring the two together in dialogue and partnership. This meeting of the two is necessitated by the forces within each that often prevent that dialogue: the church is often not interested in programs that do not focus on "spiritual" matters, and many within and outside the YWCA often regard it as a place to develop one's body and not one's spirit.
초록/해제
요약 : Beginning with her own story, the author speaks of the pivotal places each community holds in her life and development. She traces the history of the YWCA both as a world movement in its Korean history, and in its Korean-American development in the New York City area. Then, she writes about the historical understanding the church has developed about its own mission. For the YWCA, she concludes that it performs its mission to women in Christian ways that no other organization has yet to equal, though the YWCA must recognize its dependence upon the church not only for its very existence, but also to preserve its identity. Without the church, the YWCA would become one more social service agency. For the church, she concludes that it is the unique safe-guardian of sacred memories. It must recognize its dependence, however, for its genesis and also to preserve its identity, upon often-unorthodox mission groups that extend God's mission to the community, and return to the church with renewed, vital Christian vision.
초록/해제
요약 : Therein lies the dialogue and the partnership. Each community inherently depends upon the other for its life and its continued existence. The author's own life is held up as one who has stood to benefit from their mutual interaction. The church taught her as a person that she is a child of God. The YWCA taught her as a woman a fuller meaning of her salvation, and what specifically her calling as a child of God means.
