■520    ▼aSecular  time  management  methods  may  be  the  norm  for  many  people  engaged  in  a  Christian  lifestyle,  effectiveness  of  these  are  often  minimized  or  even  counter-productive  because  of  their  failure  to  consider  the  principles  that  are  given  in  the  Bible  and  a  misdirected  focus  which  excludes  a  biblical-theological  base  for  living.  The  result  of  this  misdirected  focus  is  that  many  people  feel  overwhelmed  with  responsibilities  and  life's  demands,  experience  times  when  life  seems  out  of  control,  and  struggle  with  the  pressure  that  there  is  not  enough  time  to  do  all  they  think  needs  to  be  done.  The  response  is  often  to  try  and  push  the  limits  even  harder  in  every  area  of  their  lives  to  get  the  most  out  of  every  minute  in  every  day.  Although  the  above  generalizations  likely  describe  a  majority  of  the  church  at  large,  as  well  as  western  culture  as  a  whole,  the  setting  for  this  project  focused  on  the  Christian  communities  within  La  Crescent,  Minnesota,  and  La  Crosse,  Wisconsin.
■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  project  was  to  address  the  difficulty  of  time  management  through  the  introduction  of  the  Life-Centered  Approach,  which  views  time  management  biblical-theological  perspective.  The  project  sought  to  discover  if  the  church  can  encourage  transformation  toward  principle-centered  living  through  the  discipleship  of  its  people  to  be  faithful  stewards  of  time.  This  was  tested  through  the  introduction  of  the  Life-Centered  Model,  along  with  an  integration  of  useful  secular  time  management  principles.
■520    ▼aThe  selection  of  the  sample  was  done  through  a  non-probability  sampling  method.  This  method  of  selection  would  also  be  called,  the  convenience  method,  with  its  participants  selected  because  they  are  available  and  interested  in  the  subject.  As  a  result  of  open  inivitations  by  several  area  pastors  to  participate  in  a  time  management  seminar  with  a  biblical  and  theological  base,  twenty  subjects  were  selected  because  of  their  availability.  These  subjects  were  diverse  in  gender,  age,  marital  status,  occupation  and  average  hours  of  work  per  week,  education,  and  level  of  previous  exposure  to  time  management  materials.
■520    ▼aThe  subjects  were  asked  to  participate  in  a  Friday  evening  and  all-day  Saturday  seminar  and  then  implement  the  principles  they  had  learned  over  a  twenty-one-day  assimilation  period.  The  first  section  of  the  seminar  dealt  with  various  methods  of  time  management,  while  the  second  focused  on  the  biblical  and  theological  base  time  use.  The  third  section  took  this  information  and  focused  primarily  on  the  practical  aspects  of  the  Life-Centered  Approach  to  Time  Management.  Each  project  participant  received  a  study  manual  which  included  session  outlines,  personal  worksheets,  and  an  extensive  biblical-theological  examination  of  the  subject.  Finally,  each  person  was  asked  to  complete  a  questionnaire,  following  the  assimilation  period,  about  the  perceived  changes  that  had  occurred  as  a  result  of  being  exposed  to  this  method  of  time  management.
■520    ▼aFrom  these  questionnaires,  it  was  concluded  there  is  the  need  and  ability  to  teach  a  method  of  time  which  has  its  foundation  upon  the  Bible  and  the  theological  principles  it  teaches,  and  that  the  church  can  play  a  significant  role  in  the  discipling  of  its  people  in  this  important  facet  of  their  lives.  Evaluation  of  the  project  yielded  recommendations  of  further  presentation  refinement,  possible  setting  changes,  and  a  consideration  assimilation  period.
