요약 : This dissertation seeks first to understand the factors seriously preventing or encouraging the appreciation and fulfillment of the biblical requirement to “act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God” (Mic. 6:8); with special attention to businessmen and women. This dissertation then seeks to discern, in Scripture and history, the theological-vocational-missiological paradigm necessary for evangelicals to practice a biblically-grounded transformational mission in and through the business community, with special attention to the poor and oppressed of South Los Angeles.
초록/해제
요약 : The research is predominantly synthetic/conjunctive. It seeks to identify, clarify, or question assumptions undergirding commonly held values. In the process, it develops a multiple-disciplinary endeavor creating new theory by integrating and synthesizing known biblical and theological concepts.
초록/해제
요약 : This research reviews pervasive justice-avoiding, and institutional church and clergy-avoiding factors among evangelical businesspersons, utilizing research by Laura Nash and William Diehl. Historical evidence demonstrating potential for transformational urban mission overcoming these factors was garnered from researching a community of evangelical Anglicans known as the Clapham. Sect of 18th and 19th century England.
초록/해제
요약 : Prevalent evangelical theological and missiological deficiencies are identified: unrecognized biblical meaning of vocation and its relationship to mission; avoidance of social ethics in deference to personal ethics with no relevance to business practices; the avoidance of the biblical model for incarnational and transformational mission; the rejecting of biblical and historical precedent regarding the corporate nature of mission; the unacknowledged Kingdom authority and vocational destiny of Christians now and eternally; and, the required spirituality and relationship with Jesus.
초록/해제
요약 : The research concludes with a thematic search of Scripture for aspects of a kingdom of God, theological and missiological paradigm correcting these deficiencies; while informing, provoking, and empowering evangelical businesspersons as disciples of Jesus doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God in and through the business community. The paradigm includes catalyzing and engaging the larger church in the process. The key themes in this biblical paradigm shift are vocation, the Body of Christ, family of God, personal destiny, the love-nature of God, Jubilee, urban Kingdom warfare, Holy Spirit and spirituality.
