■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  study  is  to  explore  how  the  nurturing  of  wisdom  is  an  essential  and  natural  component  of  effective  leadership  which  enables  leaders  to  see  and  thus  interpret  more  beneficially  a  path  of  action  for  the  community.  More  specifically,  the  hypotheses  of  this  study  are:  One:  The  development  and  discovery  of  wisdom  is  essential  to  all  effective  leadership;  leadership  development  is  first  the  nurturing  and  practice  of  wisdom  in  thought  and  action.  Two:  The  evidence  of  wisdom  in  leadership  is  the  pursuit  of  balance  in  personal  and  relational  maturity,  which  enables  the  leader  to  interpret  the  deeper  meaning  of  situations  and  integrate  the  needs  of  the  community  with  the  available  resources  for  a  constructive  course  of  action.  Three:  The  practice  of  wisdom  in  leadership  emerges  from  a  secure  rootedness  in  tradition;  results  in  a  constructive  sense  of  order  balanced  with  transformative  creativity  in  managing  change;  and  leads  to  prophetic  vision.
■520    ▼aTo  demonstrate  the  validity  of  these  hypotheses,  the  theories  of  wisdom  in  three  traditions  (philosophical,  theological,  and  psychological)  which  clarify  the  what  of  wise,  moral  and  communal  wisdom,  and  the  features  of  the  wise  person.  Since  wisdom  is  the  capstone  of  maturity  and  personal  development  and  is  embedded  in  its  service  to  the  community,  the  study  argues  that  the  concept  of  moral  and  communal  wisdom  is  essential  for  confronting  and  transcending  the  change  and  conflict  endemic  to  the  vocation  of  any  community.  And,  then,  in  demonstrating  the  character  of  wisdom,  historical  persons  who  were  examined  were  significant  change  agents  and  moral  agents,  to  show  the  relationship  between  wisdom  and  leadership  in  these  persons.
