- 요약 : In response to the inadequacies in current research on vocational roles in the pastorate, this dissertation starts to accomplish two objectives. First, it develops an innovative approach to practical theology through its praxis-theory synergy. In this interdependent methodology, neither praxis or theory are primary; rather, each is an influential catalyst for the other. Praxis is the starting-point and the end point, but the journey between is traveled primarily on the theoretical level through theological intervention.

- 요약 : Second, this dissertation advances the understanding of pastoral roles on both the theological and practical level. The empirical section organizes existing data around the three role categories of multiple functional roles, exemplary behavior, and emotional positivity. The extent and influence of these three expected roles in Southern California Assemblies of God senior pastors were investigated through a quantitative survey comprised of the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Family Member Wellbeing Index, and a modified portion of the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale. Five of the seven initial research hypotheses were confirmed, including the belief that senior pastors' behavior role expectations exceed their actual behaviors, and that this discrepancy correlates negatively with their sense of well-being and satisfaction with life.

- 요약 : The theological section presents some perspectives and interventions that are likely to affect pastors' current role expectations. In particular, Karl Barth's soteriological dialectic and Dietrich Bonhoeffer's ecclesiological and ethical views throw light on several pastoral roles as well as provide a possible resolution to the negative affect associated with role/behavior discrepancy.
- 초록/해제
- 요약 : The third practical section describes some critically-held practices that emerge from both the theological intervention in section two as well as through an investigation of the Apostle Paul's leadership praxis in his relationship with the Corinthian church. It concludes by suggesting the three primary functional roles of messenger, mutual minister, and model as a Christological resolution to the role/behavior discrepancy.
