■520    ▼aChapter  1  offers  a  study  of  the  development  of  understanding  in  children's  psychological  and  spiritual  development.  It  begins  with  a  look  at  the  historical  development,  then  to  Eric  Erikson  and  his  theory  of  psychoanalytical  development,  and  on  to  cognitive  development,  featuring  the  work  of  Jean  Piaget.  Also  included  is  the  attachment  theory  work  of  John  Bowlby  and  his  disciples.  In  the  area  of  moral  development,  the  works  of  Lawrence  Kohlberg  and  James  Fowler  are  examined.
