Jesus as Healer in the Fourth Gospel- [e-book]

초록/해제: 요약 : The Fourth Gospel affords a unique perspective on the person of Jesus, functioning as a healer, remaining distinct from the Synoptic Gospels. The first chapter of this thesis elucidated the narratological methodology used in the a1396689nalysis, as well as explicated the intent for the examination to remain grounded in first-century socio-historical constraints. This chapter also examined the genre of the Fourth Gospel, which justified the use of the Fourth Gospel in distilling a trustworthy picture of the historical Jesus. The second chapter of this thesis explained the meaning of health and healing in first-century Palestine, and illustrated the three modes of procuring health in the first-century: medicine, magic, and miracle. This analysis of first-century avenues of healing assisted in the depiction of Jesus as healer by delineating the type of healer Jesus was. The life motif of the Fourth Gospel, detailed in the third chapter, evinced the existence of an overarching theme of life; it also identified the specific language used by the Gospel to construct a life motif, and related it to a first-century understanding of health. An in-depth examination of four healing signs selected from the Fourth Gospel were detailed in the fourth chapter. The final chapter concludes the research. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
