요약 : The project was designed to allow Baptists to talk about their worship experiences, with particular interest in speech about the Lord's Supper. The aim was to discover if these worshipers would engage in meaningful speech about Christ's presence and action in the communion experience. The project was particularly interested in development of thought about deeper ritual and/or symbolic meanings of the Lord's Supper meal than had generally been acknowledged in historic Baptist doctrinal development. This phenomenon, noted in the dissertation of Dana B. Martin at Princeton Seminary, had been raised by other Baptist pastors and writers. Martin found that Baptist lay people did hold the Supper in higher regard than had been previously imagined, but that they lacked adequate interpretive tools to articulate its value and meaning for them. This project was intended to see if other Baptist worshipers had this same sense of a deeper meaning of the meal, and to look for language clues as to its possible further development.
초록/해제
요약 : Interviews were conducted with twelve Baptist worshipers, ranging in ages from 20 to 68 years of age. The average number of Baptist churches attended by the participants was between four and five. The theological background of the participants was mixed between fundamental, conservative, and moderate. Participants were drawn from the membership of Brook Hollow Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. Their tenure of membership at the Brook Hollow church ranged from six months to forty years.

요약 : The resources used in evaluating this project included a model of constructive theology based on the work of Peter C. Hodgson, as well as ideas from the writings of James Leo Garrett, George Lindbeck, Dan Stiver, Roger Grainger, and Paul Tillich. Advisers were Richard Whitaker and James Loder.
초록/해제
요약 : The project demonstrated that Baptists have a profound sense of deep meaning concerning the Lord's Supper; that they do not feel they have adequate vocabulary for expressing meaning; that they borrow language from other areas, including worship and lived experience, to seek to articulate meaning; and that they are open to further exploration of this topic within and without their tradition.
