■520    ▼aIn  a  situation  where  geographical  distance,  corporate  reorganization,  and  a  sense  of  broken  trust  make  the  supervision  of  ministry  difficult,  this  project  was  a  review  of  technological  options  for  rebuilding  trust.
■520    ▼aFoundational  literature  review  for  the  project  focused  on  theology  and  theories  of  leadership,  techniques  of  virtual  leadership,  and  current  writings  on  the  effect  of  digital  communication  on  modern  life.  Biblical  leadership  criteria  are  set  forth.  The  ambivalence  of  current  studies  on  the  impact  of  e-mail,  virtual  offices,  and  other  technological  business  developments  seems  to  show  that  the  verdict  is  out  on  whether  these  new  channels  of  communication  can  increase  trust,  or  simply  isolate  individuals.
■520    ▼aCampus  ministers  spread  across  several  hundred  miles  were  organized  into  a  virtual  team,  given  a  team  task  to  complete,  and  tested  by  means  of  a  Trust  Questionnaire  for  a  sense  of  trust  before  and  after  the  experience.  The  virtual  team  communicated  primarily  by  e-mail  and  asynchronous  bulletin  board,  posting  and  exchanging  assigned  work  there.  The  task  was  to  develop  a  statewide  Baptist  collegiate  event.
■520    ▼aThe  Trust  Questionnaire  showed  an  increased  level  of  trust  among  campus  ministry  staff  in  general  over  a  five-month  period.  It  showed  a  high  level  of  staff  satisfaction  with  their  vocation.  The  Trust  Questionnaire  shows  little  or  no  increase  in  the  level  of  trust  within  the  virtual  team  as  compared  to  the  campus  ministry  staff  as  a  whole.  This  could  be  explained  by  low  sample  numbers,  overall  improvements  in  current  level  of  trust  among  staff,  masked  effect  on  virtual  team  among  other  changes,  short  time  for  study,  or  negative  response  to  technology.
