요약 : This dissertation examines the relationship between the two disciplines, prayer and evangelism, as they relate to the theme of mission in Acts. The investigation demonstrates that the interfacing of prayer with evangelism is a vital component of the missionary enterprise in the book of Acts. In chapter one, appropriate boundaries for the study are set including presuppositions, and basic methodology which includes historical survey, biblical and theological definition, scriptural exegesis and synthesis and analysis.

요약 : Chapter two reveals through a descriptive analysis of representative historical figures, that the interfacing of prayer with evangelism for mission is not an isolated phenomenon in church history. This chapter examines how historical characters such as Athenagoras, Columba, Jerome Savanarola, Jonathan Edwards, Charles Finney, Charles H. Spurgeon, John Praying Hyde, Jessie Penn-Lewis and Evelyn Christenson, have interfaced prayer with personal witnessing, bold preaching, and mass, revival, and ministry evangelism efforts for the purpose of mission. The survey spans the years A.D. 100 to the present.

요약 : Chapter three moves the study toward the biblical investigation of prayer and evangelism in Acts as it examines and defines the theme of mission in Acts. Through the investigation, five essential elements of mission surface, including the element of being sent on mission, bold proclamation of the gospel, the conversion of Jews and Gentiles, the role of the Holy Spirit, and various methodologies employed while on mission. This investigation provides the backdrop for the study to narrow in its focus toward an exegesis of representative prayer and evangelism texts in Acts.

요약 : Chapter four thus provides detailed exegesis of representative prayer and evangelism passages as they relate to the theme of mission in Acts (i.e., Acts 1:14; 2:1–13; 2:42; 4:23-31; 10:2-4, 9, 30-31; 11:5; 13:1-5). This investigation proves that the first century church interfaced prayer with the evangelistic mission at key points in the mission. It shows that prayer paved the way for the Holy Spirit to empower the evangelistic mission. The research also shows that prayer was interfaced with bold witness (math f gp/gga/ggr/ggr/ggh/ggs/gaacgi/g /acac&d12;/ac/aga/g/f /math) to overcome the barrier of persecution against the mission. The study also demonstrates that prayer played an important role in overcoming ethnic barriers for the conversion of unbelievers. This chapter shows the early church practicing a life of prayer-saturated witness where personal and corporate prayer preceded and accompanied the sending of believers to accomplish the evangelistic mission.

요약 : Chapter five offers a summary and synthesis of the findings. It highlights six areas the investigation uncovered where prayer was interfaced with evangelism for the purpose of mission in Acts. Chapter five concludes with a brief look at implications for today's church with suggested areas for further study. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
