- 요약 : With environmental issues receiving unprecedented attention in the secular arena, it was only a matter of time before the Christian church was challenged to enter the discussion. In the last few decades, a multitude of ecotheological works have been produced reflecting a wide spectrum of theological perspectives.

- 요약 : In terms of methodology, some notable approaches have been employed. Evangelicals have typically reexamined pertinent doctrines from within the biblical tradition. Feminist, liberation, and New Age theologians have also brought their unique viewpoints to the field. While these writers have tended to examine environmental issues from a distinct perspective, Jay B. McDaniel opted for a more inclusive approach. Using process theology, McDaniel formulated his ecotheology by combining elements of evangelical Christianity, Zen Buddhism, feminism, liberation theology, Hinduism, and traditional religions. The purpose of the present work is to examine the product of this synthesis in light of related biblical doctrines, and to determine McDaniel's subsequent place in the spectrum of historical Christianity.

- 요약 : Chapters I and II introduce the work and provide a historic overview of the field. Chapter III introduces McDaniel, establishes the manifold sources of his ecotheology, and examines his use of Cobbian process theology to synthesize the elements he incorporates. Chapter IV then analyzes key tenets of McDaniel's scheme using orthodox theological categories, highlighting his substantial departure from the Christianity he claimed to embrace.

- 요약 : Chapter V states the writer's findings. He concluded that McDaniel's pluralistic approach to ecotheology is thoroughly postmodern; that its acceptance requires radical redefining of core Christian concepts; and that neither its components, nor their sum are represented in historical Christianity.
