■520    ▼aThe  purpose  in  conducting  this  ministry  study  was  to  consider  the  implications  brought  about  by  the  future  projections  of  the  site  development  committee  of  College  Avenue  Baptist  Church  (San  Diego,  CA)  which  suggests  a  doubling  of  weekend  worship  attendance  over  the  next  twenty  years.  The  most  recent  doubling  of  attendance  has  transpired  in  the  past  ten  years.  Assuming  the  growth  of  the  church  to  8,000  attenders  in  the  year  2020  A.D.,  the  fundamental  question  of  this  study  deals  with  what  it  would  take  to  clear  away  the  obstacles  for  such  growth  to  occur.  The  obstacles  are  many  in  number.
■520    ▼aThis  ministry  study  begins  with  a  profile  and  assessment  of  the  church  and  the  surrounding  community.  There  are  several  factors  which  are  considered,  including  the  current  socio  demographic  trends  of  the  immediate  area  and  the  long,  rich  history  of  the  church  itself.  Consideration  is  given  to  the  limitations  of  the  existing  site  and  the  capital  needed  to  expand  the  size  of  the  present  location  and  its  facilities.  An  assessment  of  the  ensuing  leadership  issues  and  infra  structural  challenges  are  also  presented.
■520    ▼aThe  outcome  of  the  initial  assessment  and  the  consideration  given  to  the  projection  for  future  growth  at  College  Avenue  is  a  practical  strategy  section  outlining  five  key  priorities  for  long-term  growth  and  renewal.  These  priorities  grow  out  of  an  investigation  of  the  nature  and  theology  of  the  church  and  an  appraisal  of  what  church  growth  means  in  the  current  context  and  the  place  of  evangelism  toward  that  end.  The  constructs  of  quality  and  quantity  in  achieving  growth  are  integrated  into  each  of  the  five  key  priorities.  This  ministry  study  concludes  with  an  implementation  section  to  be  used  by  the  church  leadership,  including  a  time-line  and  a  detailed  grid  of  possible  actions  correlated  to  each  strategic  priority.
