- 요약 : The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the historical, philosophical, medical, and theological arguments in the active euthanasia debate as they relate to the legalization of Physician-Assisted Suicide (PAS). These arguments will be juxtaposed against the necessity of pastoral and congregational ministry to the dying. PAS was chosen because this country stands on the edge of a slippery slope that could lead to very deadly consequences. The current debate points out this country's secular view of life and the Christian community's failure of faith and ministry.

- 요약 : The body of the work is composed of six chapters and each chapter will examine a specific aspect of the debate and draw conclusions. Primary sources were employed that spanned the spectrums of date, purpose, and authorship. The sources that were used represent an adequate sample of printed and spoken material surrounding the issue. The direction taken in the subject was to thoroughly examine the issue in order to accurately discern the call of PAS to be legalized.

- 요약 : The principal conclusions reached were that adequate ministry by pastors and congregations would all but eliminate the call for PAS and the corresponding pressure for its legalization. In each case it was determined that adequate ministry in the local church and congregation would lead to a reduction of the request for PAS. It is acknowledged that there will always be very problematical cases that produce great difficulty and even on the surface point toward the ending of life. However, in light of the biblical witness and the effective ministry of the pastor and congregation the better choice is ministry not mortality. This does require that pastors and churches rethink and retool their ministry to the dying and embrace some likeminded para church organizations like Hospice. Churches should also develop ministries within the church like Parish Nurses. It is believed that if pastors and churches are successful in showing the compassion Jesus spoke of in the story of the Good Samaritan the legalization of PAS can be stopped and ministry can prevail over mortality.
