초록/해제
요약 : This dissertation seeks to delineate a missiological analysis of the Pokot people, an unreached people group in East Africa, and to outline a receptor-oriented gospel communication approach that utilizes points of contact embedded within the traditional Pokot worldview. The author argues that the Pokot lack of receptivity to the gospel stems primarily from the use of non-contextualized evangelistic approaches. This dissertation addresses the current need among the Pokot to hear the gospel in a manner that addresses their traditional beliefs, thereby increasing the likelihood of a Pokot indigenous Christianity.
초록/해제
요약 : The approach of the dissertation is cumulative. First, the writer outlines the history of Christianity among the Pokot. Second, he delineates a theological study of the point of contact theory. The study demonstrates that the point of contact concept is rooted in the New Testament preaching of the gospel as described in Acts, and has found expression throughout the history of Christianity in cross-cultural communication of the gospel. Third, culturally appropriate communication structures and Pokot points of contact are identified. Lastly, after presenting a theological appraisal of these points of contact, the dissertation outlines a receptor-oriented communication model which utilizes the communication structures and the points of contact.
초록/해제
요약 : Three principle conclusions result from this dissertation. First, cross-cultural communication of the gospel necessitates a missiological analysis of the receptors' traditional belief system as it is manifested in their worldview and culture. Second, points of contact, defined as manifestations of general revelation that enhance communication of the gospel, constitute a primary means for the initial presentation of the gospel in any cross-cultural context. Third, the contextualized evangelistic approach herein outlined enhances gospel credibility in all cultures by averting culturally inappropriate presentations of Christianity.
초록/해제
요약 : Four basic sources are used in this dissertation. First the author collected and studied all the available literature on the Pokot. Second, the writer gathered and analyzed selected material on neighboring Nilotic tribes. Third, the author employed a worldview profile which required his direct observation and informal interviewing of the Pokot. Fourth, the theological resources of Southwestern Seminary's Roberts Library were accessed for the related theological and historical studies.
