요약 : Chapter 2 analyzes the interaction between Spirit and Scripture in the preaching event. In addition to a comparison of Scripture and preaching as the word of God, this chapter seeks to explain how the Holy Spirit interacts with Scripture to make preaching an occasion for the confirmation of Scripture as the Word of God.

요약 : Chapter 3 focuses on the activity between Spirit and preacher during the act of proclamation. In particular, this chapter considers how the Spirit empowers the preacher so that the presence of God is actualized and the preacher may appropriately apply the truth of the text.

요약 : Chapter 4 explores the Spirit's action within the congregation. Knowing Calvin's emphasis on the sovereignty of God in the process of election, this study analyzes how the Spirit accomplishes regeneration, illumination, faith and repentance during the preaching event.
초록/해제
요약 : Chapter 5 concludes by offering contemporary applications from this study for the field of homiletics.
초록/해제
요약 : Though many theologians have differed with various tenets of Calvin's theology and some even dislike the man, most contemporary scholars appreciate his contributions to the development of Christian theology. Nevertheless, his extensive references to the Holy Spirit's activity in preaching coupled with the increasing interest in pneumatology within the field of homiletics make this study relevant to all heralds of the Gospel. By analyzing how the Holy Spirit is active with the other three elements of the preaching event, this study of Calvin's theology of preaching contributes to the ongoing analysis of God's role in Christian proclamation.
