■520    ▼aWhile  numerous  dissertations  and  other  works  have  been  written  on  the  ministry  of  William  Franklin  Billy  Graham,  very  few  have  devoted  themselves  to  his  evangelistic  theology.  The  task  of  this  dissertation  was  to  examine  Graham's  evangelistic  theology  and  methodology,  particularly  noting  two  concepts:  parameters  and  message.  The  focus  of  the  research  was  on  Graham's  published  sermons,  including  his  Hour  of  Decision  sermons  and  those  published  in  other  places.
■520    ▼aChapter  1  provided  the  context  for  the  study.  It  introduced  Graham's  worldwide  crusade  methodology,  noted  specific  challenges  that  he  faced,  and  provided  definitions  of  evangelism,  evangelism  in  theology,  and  theology  of  evangelism.
■520    ▼aChapter  2  discussed  parameters  for  evangelism—or  more  accurately  an  expanded  definition  of  evangelism.  It  discussed  Graham's  view  of  the  Great  Commission,  his  approach  to  the  relationship  of  evangelism  and  social  responsibility,  and  his  influence  in  the  lifestyle  evangelism  movement  of  the  latter  part  of  the  twentieth  century.
■520    ▼aChapter  3  looked  at  the  aspects  of  the  message  in  the  area  of  evangelism.  It  looked  at  Graham's  disclaimer,  the  Personal  Gospel,instantaneous  conversion,  sin,  salvation,  and  judgment.  Research  indicated  that  Graham's  theology  needed  to  be  divided  into  four  time  segments:  the  Early-Early  Graham  (pre-1949),  the  Early  Graham  (1949-1957),  the  Middle  Graham  (1957-1967),  and  the  Later  Graham  (1967  and  following).  Graham's  theology  in  each  area  of  systematic  theology  was  studied  chronologically,  following  the  above  time  segments.  It  was  noted  that  Graham's  changing  approach  to  issues  of  systematic  theology  related  closely  to  his  changes  in  parameters  for  evangelism,  as  noted  in  the  previous  chapter.
■520    ▼aChapter  4  concluded  the  dissertation  with  a  discussion  of  Graham's  approach  to  the  middle,  the  power  of  words,  and  some  particular  observations  based  on  each  chapter.  This  study  of  Graham's  evangelistic  theology  provided  important  links  between  systematic  theology  and  the  practice  of  evangelism.
