■520    ▼aThe  population  of  international  students  has  grown  consistently  throughout  last  decade  and  many  theological  educational  institutions  have  witnessed  the  same  trend.  As  a  matter  of  fact,  the  percentages  of  international  students  at  some  theological  educational  institutions,  especially  at  the  graduate  level  of  professional  and  specialized  training  such  as  seminaries  and  divinity  schools,  are  considerable.
■520    ▼aAs  the  population  of  the  international  students  in  educational  institutions  across  the  country  to  rise,  researchers  have  conducted  studies  on  the  international  students'  needs  and  adjustment  problems.  Most  of  this  research,  however,  has  information  that  is  too  generalized.  They  often  neglect  the  idiosyncrasies  of  the  international  students  who  come  from  a  particular  culture  and  social  system.  Moreover  the  research  has  not  represented  the  unique  population  of  the  international  students  in  theological  institutions  and  ignores  significant  theological  issues.
■520    ▼aThis  dissertation  examines  the  adaptation  factors  experienced  by  Korean  international  students  in  theological  educational  institutions  in  the  United  States.  It  also  seeks  to  explore  and  understand  cultural  factors  that  may  contribute  to  adjustment  problems  in  their  journey  of  theological  education  in  the  United  States.
■520    ▼aThe  sample  comprised  220  Korean  international  students  who  were  enrolled  at  the  six  theological  educational  institutions  of  the  Southern  Baptist  Convention  during  the  Fall  Semester  of  2001.  With  the  response  rate  of  47.27%,  data  was  collected  from  104  respondents  by  using  Michigan  International  Student  Problem  Inventory  (MISPI).
■520    ▼aThe  findings  of  this  study  indicated  that  English  Language  was  the  problem  area  of  most  concern  to  Korean  international  students  in  theological  institutions  of  the  Southern  Baptist  Convention.  “Understanding  U.S.  ‘slang,’”  “Giving  oral  reports  in  class,”  “Speaking  English,”  and  “Ability  to  write  English”  were  the  most  concern  items  in  the  area  of  English  Language.
■520    ▼aThe  area  of  Financial  Aid  was  the  second  most  concerned  area  reported  by  the  respondents.  "Finding  jobs  that  pay  well,"  "Lack  of  money  to  meet  expenses,"  "Exchange  ratio  of  U.S.  dollar  to  Korean"  "won,"  and  "Immigration  work  restrictions"  were  the  most  concern  items  in  this  area.
■520    ▼aThese  two  areas  were  followed  by  Placement  Service,  Academic  Record,  Social-Personal,  Health  Services,  Student  Activities,  Orientation  Services,  Religious  Services,  and  Admission-Selection.  The  lowest  ranked  problem  area  was  Living-Dining  Problems.
■520    ▼aThe  findings  of  this  study  implied  that  the  Korean  international  students  must  take  a  more  active  and  positive  attitude  toward  adaptation  factors  in  which  they  often  struggle  and  the  officials  of  the  theological  educational  institutions  in  the  United  States  must  take  the  concerns  and  problems  of  Korean  international  students  more  prayerfully  and  wholeheartedly  because  they  are  brothers  and  sisters  in  Christ  and  their  concerns  are  real.
