초록/해제
요약 : The current practice of the Akan Christian Church requires converted polygamists to divorce all but their first wife in order to participate in the sacraments. The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the issue in its cultural, historical, biblical, pastoral and theological dimensions, and thus provide an alternative in dealing with converted polygamists among the Akans where polygamy is both an immemorial practice and a contemporary reality.
초록/해제
요약 : It is the position of the researcher that the Akan Christian Church has committed a fundamental missiological, pastoral and theological error by forcing converted polygamists to divorce all but the first wife in order to participate in the sacraments. The study proposes an adoption of a new policy of toleration, along the lines already tested by the Lutheran Church of Liberia. Persons who have entered polygamous marriages, prior to conversion to the Christian faith, in good faith and according to the socially accepted practice of their time and place in history, should not be required to divorce all but one wife, in order to participate in the sacramental life of the church. As part of their normal instruction in the faith, however, it should be made clear to them that no additional polygamous marriages are permissible once they have entered the Christian community through baptism. This position is culturally and biblically appropriate, and pastorally sensitive.
초록/해제
요약 : The study will adopt the missionary theology model which seeks to bridge the gap between biblical revelation and human context. It will draw from other theological methodologies. This means the study will take seriously the reflections that have been done in the past centuries by the people of God concerning what has been revealed by God in the Scriptures and how it has been understood by the community of faith since Abraham.
