■520    ▼aGod  has  promised  spiritual  renewal  to  fasting  Christians  since  it  glorifies  Him  (Matt.  6:17,18).  This  study  describes  the  formation  of  a  Christian  fasting  ministry  within  Castleberry  Baptist  Church,  Fort  Worth,  Texas  and  explores  Christians  fasting's  relationship  to  this  Christlikeness.  It  elucidates  Christian  fasting  by  discussing  its  definition  and  modes  and  postulating  its  rationale,  glorifying  God.  This  paper  also  presents  the  theological  foundation  of  Christian  fasting  by  briefly  reciting  its  history  and  discussing  its  Scriptural  support;  Matthew  9:14-17  and  fasting's  reward,  "apodosei,"  are  especially  examined.  Moreover,  four  manifestations  of  fasting's  reward,  strengthened  prayer,  intensified  spiritual  hunger,  a  renewed  theological  understanding  of  God  and  receiving  grace  for  godliness  are  explored.  The  "receiving  grace  for  godliness"  section  demonstrates  that  the  Holy  Spirit  through  the  Christian  Disciplines  produces  spiritual  renewal  within  believers.  The  "renewed  theological  understanding  of  God"  section  emphasizes  Christian  fasting's  relationship  to  God's  eschaton,  almsgiving  and  the  creation  of  Christian  "community"  which  occurs  during  fasting.
■520    ▼aThe  sequential  formulation  and  implementation  of  the  fasting  ministry  is  detailed;  twelve  fasting  forms  used  in  the  ministry  are  provided.  Moreover,  the  implementation  section  specifically  discusses  fasting  sermonic  content,  the  recruitment  and  training  of  fasters—including  the  teaching  content  of  the  actual  training—a  description  of  the  fasting  group  meetings  and  a  discussion  of  the  results  of  six  twenty-four  hour  fasting  periods.
■520    ▼aAdditionally,  the  paper  demonstrates  that  29  of  30  fasters  were  renewed.  This  assessment  reflects  the  findings  of  Easters'  oral  and  written  exit  interviews  and  the  comparison  of  personal  spiritual  well-being  scales  that  were  given  before  and  after  the  fasting.  This  study  also  discusses  the  physiological  aspects  of  fasting,  suggests  how  the  fasting  ministry  could  have  been  improved  and  recommends  fasting  areas  needing  further  study.
