■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  project  was  to  develop  practical  guidelines  to  assist  associate  ministers  in  pastoral  duties  and  to  present  the  completed  guidelines  to  the  Seacoast  Missionary  Baptist  Association.  This  project  came  to  fruition  based  on  the  need  for  more  competent  ministers  to  lead  in  African-American  congregations  in  general  and  in  the  Seacoast  Missionary  Baptist  Association  specifically.  To  better  prepare  ministers  for  their  duties,  the  project  directly  addressed  the  need  for  ministerial  qualifications  in  the  worship  service,  communion,  baptism,  weddings,  funerals,  and  academic  and  theological  inquiry.
■520    ▼aProject  preparation  included:  comprising  a  Lay  Advisory  Committee,  recruitment  of  pastors,  ministers  and  deacons  for  statistical  information,  development  of  a  project  criteria,  confronting  project  obstacles,  and  presenting  the  need  for  the  project  from  a  theological  perspective.  For  the  implementation  of  the  project,  each  area  of  the  preparation  was  necessary.  The  committee  assisted  in  preparation  and  the  training  sessions,  the  statistical  information  from  pastors,  ministers  and  deacons  was  necessary  to  make  sure  that  the  project  criteria  was  expressly  directed  to  the  needs  of  associate  ministers  in  the  Association.  While  the  theological  perspective  addressed  its  relevant  connection  with  the  scriptures.
■520    ▼aThe  activity  stage  of  the  project  was  in  nine  training  sessions.  Each  session  focused  on  a  topic  for  ministers  to  participate  in  specific  duties.  Specifically,  the  training  sessions  were  to  teach  ministers  how  to:  (1)  preside  in  the  worship  service.  (2)  administer  the  ordinances  of  baptism  and  communion.  (3)  officiate  weddings  and  funerals.  (4)  make  recommendations  for  academic  and  theological  training.
■520    ▼aIn  conclusion,  the  Seacoast  Missionary  Baptist  Association  received  recommendations  based  on  the  evaluations  from  the  training  sessions  on  practical  guidelines  for  associate  ministers  in  preparation  for  pastoral  ministry.  The  hope  of  this  project  was  that  the  training  sessions  would  encourage  ministers  to  better  equip  themselves  for  the  duties  of  ministry  to  the  congregation,  community,  and  society.
