Isaac Backus and His Ecclesial Thought- [e-book]

초록/해제: 요약 : The ecclesial thought of Isaac Backus (1724--1806) was the principal purpose of this dissertation. Copies of his pamphlets (especially the earlier ones), diary, and histories were the primary sources consulted. How his ecclesial thought contrasted with his Congregational heritage, an emphasis on a conversion experience, and the dynamic role of the Holy Spirit directed the development of his tenets and this dissertation. Four divisions of his ecclesial thought were examined.

Backus had rejected the Standing Order (Old Light Congregational) model for the Church The Standing Order had retreated from the pure-Church ideal of its Puritan forefathers by allowing membership to those who had not experienced conversion.
