■520    ▼aThis  paper  looks  at  how  the  Korean  Baptist  churches  in  the  United  States  can  experience  continuous  and  on-going  renewal.  The  developed  biblical  and  historical  model  of  renewal  pays  particular  attention  to  the  writings  of  Jonathan  Edwards,  Richard  F.  Lovelace,  Howard  A.  Snyder,  and  Paul  E.  Pierson  and  discusses  the  twelve  crucial  dynamic  renewal  elements  in  the  three  categories  of  knowing  God,  loving  one  another,  and  serving  the  world.
■520    ▼aIn  reviewing  the  social-history  of  the  Korean  church  in  America  (KCA)  from  1902  to  1951,  I  found  that  the  church  was  indispensable  for  many  of  the  early  Korean  immigrants,  but  this  was  more  due  to  social  factors  than  spiritual  reasons;  the  church  oftentimes  became  a  social  club  rather  than  a  spiritual  house  of  worship.  From  1952-2001,  however,  the  spiritual  drive  in  the  church  to  know  God  and  do  his  will  in  the  world  had  overall  increased,  while  still  putting  a  good  deal  of  emphasis  on  social  needs.
■520    ▼aThe  Korean  Baptist  churches  in  the  United  States  that  are  affiliated  with  the  Southern  Baptist  Convention  have  grown  tremendously  in  the  past  thirty  years.  Today,  the  Korean  Baptist  Church  (KIBC)  is  the  largest  Korean  church  group  in  the  United  States  with  more  than  700  congregations.  Unfortunately,  a  large  number  of  them  are  spiritually  weak  and  numerical  small;  many  of  them  have  ten  to  twenty  members.  Radical  changes  will  be  necessary,  especially  for  these  small  struggling  churches,  if  they  plan  to  seek  spiritual  renewal,  that  is,  experience  the  outpouring  of  the  Holy  Spirit  in  their  ministries.
■520    ▼aHowever,  the  Berendo  Street  Baptist  Church  in  Los  Angeles,  California,  the  Berkland  Baptist  Church  in  Berkeley,  California,  and  the  Global  Mission  Church  in  Silver  Spring  Maryland,  are  the  three  flagship  Korean  Baptist  churches  in  the  United  States  who  are  giving  much  attention  and  experiencing  renewal  in  their  midst.  In  their  own  and  different  ways  they  are  effective  in  knowing  God,  loving  one  another,  and  serving  the  world.  Albeit  imperfect  churches,  they  serve  as  good  examples  of  renewal  for  churches  of  all  sizes  and  denominations.
