■520    ▼aProblem.  The  problem  of  this  study  was  to  determine  the  relationship  between  specific  predictor  variables  and  the  level  of  hope,  as  measured  by  the  Adult  State  Hope  Scale,  in  group  therapy  clients  at  the  Baptist  Marriage  and  Family  Counseling  Center  at  Southwestern  Baptist  Theological  Seminary  in  Fort  Worth,  Texas.  The  predictor  variables  included:  age  of  the  client,  number  of  sessions  the  client  attended  in  therapy,  number  of  participants  in  the  therapy  group,  the  clients'  perceived  level  of  cohesion  in  the  group,  and  the  clients'  perceived  level  of  competence  of  the  therapist.  The  further  problem  of  this  study  was  to  determine  if  a  difference  exists  in  group  therapy  clients'  level  of  hope  based  on  the  following  groupings:  sex  of  the  client,  marital  status  of  the  client,  religious  affiliation  of  the  client  and  type  of  group  the  client  attended.
■520    ▼aProcedures.  The  Adult  State  Hope  Scale  and  a  demographic  questionnaire  were  administered  to  a  sample  of  clients  at  the  Baptist  Marriage  and  Family  Counseling  Center  in  Fort  Worth,  Texas.  Utilizing  the  53  respondents,  a  stepwise  multiple  regression  procedure  was  utilized  to  determine  the  relationship  between  group  therapy  clients  hope  scores  and  five  predictor  variables.  In  addition,  four  separate  ANOVA's  were  utilized  to  determine  if  there  was  a  significant  difference  in  religious  affiliation,  sex  of  the  client,  type  of  therapy  group  attended,  and  marital  status  of  the  client.
■520    ▼aFindings  and  conclusions.  The  regression  procedure  revealed  two  significant  predictors  of  clients'  level  of  hope:  clients'  perceived  level  of  cohesion  in  the  therapy  group  and  number  of  participants  in  the  group,  p  <  .05.  Additionally,  there  was  a  significant  difference  in  scores  on  the  Adult  State  Hope  Scale  based  upon  group  therapy  clients'  religious  affiliation  and  the  type  of  therapy  group  they  attended.
