요약 : Most typological studies have focused primarily upon the type-antitype relationship which is appropriate in light of how the two Testaments relate. This has left, however, an important issue relatively untouched, namely, the origins of a type. Where does a writer, whether from the NT, IL, or OT decide what persons or events are typological?
초록/해제
요약 : When examining the flood story in the Jewish text of Genesis 6--9, the origins of flood typology came are apparent. Genesis presents the flood to its readers as a prototype, a first generation type that sets the patterns and theology that later events will parallel. Only those events with a similar theme and that occur on a large scale are considered by the biblical writers as apt types of Noah's flood. Writers in the intertestamental period were attracted to the flood as it embodied both salvation and judgment themes that the faithful longed for in the face of post-exilic, spiritual disappointments and foreign occupations.
초록/해제
요약 : Coming to the NT, the emphasis shifts from types to antitypes. The fulfillment has arrived with the birth of Messiah. Jesus and his work are the antitypes to the OT prototypes and types. But since this fulfillment will occur in two stages, so will typological fulfillment. The NT sees Jesus' salvific work, as exemplified in baptism, as an antitype of the Noahic prototype. Jesus' death and resurrection accomplish permanently what the flood only did temporarily: bring a resolution to the sin-problem of humanity. Yet sin persists in the world. Thus, the second advent fulfills the second aspect of the flood prototype. Jesus' parousia is also an antitype of the flood whose judgment will finally and completely expunge sin from the face of the earth as Noah's flood once did temporarily. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
