■520    ▼aThe  research  problem  identifies  the  need  to  educate  a  generation  at  risk  regarding  sexual  values.  Attention  is  given  to  chastity  and  true  love  being  a  direct  result  of  an  individual's  moral,  cognitive,  and  faith  development.
■520    ▼aThe  precedent  literature,  which  includes  a  survey  of  biblical  and  theological  beliefs,  supports  that  biblical  principles  regarding  relationships  are  for  human  protection  and  provision.
■520    ▼aA  pre-selected  geographically  stratified  sample  of  Southern  Baptist  churches  from  seven  regions  in  Texas  were  identified  and  151  individuals  who  have  been  married  less  than  five  years  responded.
■520    ▼aThe  sample  demographics  were  equally  divided  between  male  and  female.  Only  6%  had  personally  divorced.  A  strong  Christian  context  was  established,  yet  only  27%  were  chaste  (did  not  have  intercourse  or  involvement  in  other  sexual  behavior  such  as  oral  sex)  prior  to  marriage.  Approximately  81%  of  first  sexual  initiation  prior  to  marriage  took  place  during  age  15--20  years.  Of  those  who  participated  in  sexual  activity  prior  to  marriage,  82--83%  has  reservations  about  not  staying  chaste  prior  to  marriage.
■520    ▼aThe  data  supports  that  Christian  Education  has  offered  noteworthy  help,  but  for  the  majority  of  respondents  the  contribution  of  knowledge  and  help  was  not  effectively  transferred  into  a  value  system  that  curbed  practical  sexual  behavior.  The  conclusions  suggest  a  strategy  of  prevention  and  plan  to  help  deal  with  forgiveness  and  moral  failure  are  needed.
■520    ▼aParents  were  relatively  uninvolved  in  the  direct  sex  education  of  their  child.  When  a  parent  was  involved,  it  was  usually  the  mother.  Although  named  as  major  influencers,  most  parents  played  a  small  part  in  educating  their  child  on  sexual  issues.
■520    ▼aPledges  and  vows  are  effective.  Of  all  participants,  36%  made  a  pledge  or  formalized  vow.  Of  those  who  had  the  opportunity,  31%  participated  in    True  Love  Waits.  Those  who  make  a  vow  tend  to  keep  it.  The  majority  of  respondents  who  had  sexual  intercourse  prior  to  marriage  did  not  make  a  pledge  to  chastity.
