■520    ▼aProblem.  The  problem  of  this  study  was  to  determine  differences  between  response  rates  and  between  subject  score  means  and  standard  deviations  across  three  distinct  survey  data  collection  modes  among  Southern  Baptist  youth  workers.  The  data  collection  modes  were:  group  administered,  e-mail/web,  and  mail.  An  additional  problem  was  to  examine  the  differences  between  total  cost,  time  to  complete  the  data  cycle,  and  response  time  across  the  modes.
■520    ▼aProcedures.  A  subset  of  The  Link  Institute  for  Faithful  and  Effective  Youth  Ministry's  instrument,  "A  Study  of  Protestant  Youth  Ministers  in  America,"  constituted  the  research  instrument.  The  youth  worker  sample  consisted  of  94  attendees  at  the  Baptist  General  Convention  of  Texas  Youth  Ministry  Conclave,  230  subscribers  to  the  Lifeway  Christian  Resources'  Student  Ministry.zip  e-mail  newsletter,  and  318  addressees  from  the  Tennessee  Baptist  Convention.  Chi-Square  Goodness  of  Fit  was  used  to  compare  response  rates.  ANOVA  was  used  to  compare  subject  score  means.  Simple  comparisons  were  used  to  compare  cost,  time  to  complete  the  data  cycle,  and  response  time.
■520    ▼aFindings  and  conclusions.  The  mail  response  rate  was  significantly  higher  than  the  e-mail/web  and  group  administered  survey  modes.  Subject  score  means  were  significantly  higher  for  the  e-mail/web  than  for  the  mail  and  group  administered  survey  modes.  Total  cost  was  higher  for  the  mail  than  for  the  e-mail/web  and  group  administered  survey  modes.  The  group  administered  survey  was  completed  faster  than  the  e-mail/web  or  the  mail  modes.  Recommendations  from  this  study  are  as  follows.  The  e-mail/web  survey  mode  provides  an  advantage  in  survey  cost,  but  has  the  disadvantage  of  producing  a  low  response  rate.  Mail  surveys  will  likely  produce  a  higher  response  rate,  but  its  higher  cost  is  a  disadvantage.  The  group  administered  survey  mode  is  advantageous  in  collecting  data  when  time  is  limited.  Further  research  is  needed  on  the  effect  of  the  e-mail/web  survey  mode  on  subject  score  means.
