■520    ▼aProblem.  The  problem  of  this  study  was  to  determine  the  relationship  between  youth  attitude  toward  cohabitation  and  selected  variables  of  teenagers  attending  a  Southern  Baptist  Evangelism  Conference  in  Louisiana.  These  variables  were  current  marital  status  of  the  parent  with  whom  the  adolescent  lived,  past  living  arrangement  of  the  adolescent,  faith  maturity  of  the  adolescent,  and  current  grade.
■520    ▼aProcedures.  The  Faith  Maturity  Scale  (FMS)  and  five  demographic  questions  were  distributed  to  youth  attending  the  conference  in  November  2002  with  1,900  adolescents  participating  in  the  study.  Three  chi-square  tests  analyzed  the  relationship  between  attitude  of  the  adolescent  toward  cohabitation  with  current  marital  status  of  the  parent  with  whom  the  adolescent  lived,  past  living  arrangement  of  the  adolescent,  and  grade  level.
■520    ▼aTwo  other  chi-square  tests  considered  FMS  score  categories  of  high,  medium,  and  low  and  adolescent  attitude  toward  cohabitation.  One  of  these  tests  measured  FMS  score  categories  for  the  vertical  scores  and  the  other  test  measured  FMS  score  categories  for  the  horizontal  scores.  Significant  chi-square  results  of  these  five  tests  were  computed  with  Cramer's  Phi  to  determine  the  strength  of  the  relationship  between  the  variables.
■520    ▼aFindings  and  conclusions.  The  results  of  each  of  the  five  tests  conducted  were  significant.  Overall,  21.3  percent  of  the  adolescents  thought  it  was  a  good  idea  to  live  with  someone  before  marriage.  Attitude  toward  cohabitation  of  the  adolescents  was  found  to  be  statistically  dependent  upon  each  of  the  variables  of  current  marital  status  of  the  parent  with  whom  the  adolescent  lived,  past  living  arrangement  of  the  adolescent,  FMS  vertical  scores,  FMS  horizontal  scores,  and  grade  of  the  adolescent.  Therefore,  each  of  the  variables  affected  adolescent  attitudes  toward  cohabitation.
