요약The purpose of this dissertation is to describe a form of leadership that, while reflecting current insights, is biblically grounded, historically informed, and sensitive to the nuances of communities of faith that value sacramental ministry and liturgical worship (particularly of the Anglican heritage).
Abstracts/Etc
요약Many leaders in more Protestant congregations fail to see themselves as a symbol or icon to their parishioners, and thus miss a significant area of influence that is taking place in their leadership, whether they know it or not. Those of a more catholic (liturgical) persuasion often must go outside of their own tradition to study the practical aspects of parish administration, staff and self management, prioritizing, vision-setting, and other important aspects of leading a local congregation. Integrating such material into a perception of one as priest or some other form of symbolic leader can be awkward, or missed altogether.
Abstracts/Etc
요약This paper will attempt to bring about an intersection of these two streams of thought. From this intersection, a different articulation of leadership will come forth: one that is practical and pragmatic, but aware of the subtleties of symbol and mystery, avoiding a clinical sterility on the one hand and an incompetent superstition on the other. This paper will engage in three main perspectives. The first perspective will examine several of the paradigmatic persons and events of Holy Scripture, examining both the symbolic and functional dimensions of leadership.
Abstracts/Etc
요약The second perspective will survey the historic liturgies of the Anglican Church, particularly as they relate to leadership (both lay and ordained), beginning with the 1549 Book of Common Prayer to the present.
Abstracts/Etc
요약The third perspective will review current trends of thought regarding leadership, the majority of sources coming from a Christian perspective. The notion of the leader as sacrament will then be set forth as a means of connecting the pragmatic, functional understanding of modern leadership with the symbolic and mystical nature of leadership. A conclusion presenting summary thoughts and reflections is included.
