초록/해제
요약 : This dissertation explores the connections between prayer and community in the Rule of St. Benedict (RB), with special attention given to the Rule's internal coherence and relevance for contemporary communities of faith.
초록/해제
요약 : Section One of the study begins with a foundational chapter on the christomorphism of Benedictine monasticism. The term "christomorphism" describes that posture of being which channels the desire for God into a way of prayer and transforms a group of individuals into a community. Chapters two and three address the chief means by which this ordering of Christian dispositions (intentions and behaviors) is attained in the monastery: the opus Dei, lectio divina and episodic prayers. The latter group, episodic or occasional prayers, fall under four general categories in the RB: initiation, formation, exclusion and rites of commissioning. Their language, structure and context are described and analyzed in order to understand the contribution which they make to the christomorphic endeavor.

요약 : Section Two takes the essence of what has been uncovered in the preceding chapters concerning the internal connections between prayer and community in the RB and applies those insights to contemporary communities of faith under the dual aspects of theology and praxis. The emphasis is upon prayer as lived theology born of actual experience of a way of life. Chapter four makes some general theological observations about the nature of prayer, including Christian affections and worship, then addresses, in a more specific way, the topic of prayer in contemporary monasticism and church. Chapter five treats the concrete relations which are requisite in any account of the authenticity of a community's prayer, that is, patterns of human interrelation which help form a group of people into a body of living prayer. The aim of this section is to provide a framework for re-visioning the life of Christians together before God.
