초록/해제: 요약 : From the 1980s, Korean churches began to realize the importance of the role of the laity. As a consequence, many churches focused on discipleship training projects. These projects encouraged lay people to take an active role in the church. Discipleship training projects became very important to about ninety-nine percent of Korean churches. In addition, it is true that the discipleship-training project for laity has been a significant factor of church growth.

초록/해제: 요약 : A recent slowdown of church growth as well as "transference" growth of Christians moving to another church however indicates that discipleship training projects for lay people have not achieved their basic goal. Ministers are responsible for the lay people who are well trained in theory, but do not attract new believers in practice. This means that pastors do not set an example causing believers to communicate the gospel. Thus, the single reason for failure of discipleship training is the lack of an example of evangelism set by the leader who trains the lay people. When the leader does not communicate with personal example, the training will fail. Discipleship training that lacks an actual personal example of evangelism has no power.

초록/해제: 요약 : A comparative study of the Great Commission in Matthew 28 and John 15 confirms that evangelism is the foundation of discipleship training. Jesus wanted his disciples to go out to preach the gospel and bear fruit. An evangelism program in God's plan needs to follow Christ's example. The essence of making disciples must be to cause them to communicate the gospel and bear fruit. Only he/she who preaches the gospel to lost people is a disciple. A study of early churches that were balanced in evangelism and discipleship training as well as a research of the models of evangelism given by Jesus, Paul, and other apostles, teach that the leading pastors in discipleship training should, themselves, be models of evangelism. For Jesus, evangelism was not a program but a lifestyle. He looked for all types of people in varied circumstances to evangelize them despite severe persecution until he was finally nailed to a cross for the sins of the world. Jesus evangelized people one-on-one and in relationship with them. Such an approach must be a model for discipleship training. Another model for discipleship training is Paul who voluntarily became a servant of all the people as he evangelized them.

초록/해제: 요약 : Leaders of discipleship training can follow the strategies for evangelism that Jesus and the apostles used. One of the most important strategies is to go to the right, responsive people, at the correct time. For effective evangelism, lead pastors of discipleship training need to visit those who have personal relationship with them, as Jesus and Paul did. Leaders can stimulate the lay people who are in their discipleship-training course by the manifestation of their lives devoted to preaching the message of the cross and resurrection, the central message of the apostles. Leaders who set the example of evangelism will be followed by reproduction and transformation in the lives of the lay people. In conclusion, a discipleship-training project will meet its aim and be conducive to church growth when its leader demonstrates an example of evangelism to the trainee.
