요약 : My goals in this study are to: (1) demonstrate that God's desire for a relationship with humans is the underlying, unifying metatheme of his communication in Scripture, and, (2) discover the missiological implications of that metatheme for theology, hermeneutics, and translation theory.
초록/해제
요약 : The research questions for this study are: (1) Did God use the same communication conventions when communicating with humans, that humans use when communicating with each other? (2) Can a discourse level analysis of Scripture be used to discover and demonstrate a foundational theme (metatheme) in God's communication to humans? (3) Is God's desire for a relationship with humans the underlying metatheme of Scripture? (4) Is there a way for the biblical metatheme to permeate theological reflection, hermeneutical assumptions and translation theory?
초록/해제
요약 : After briefly reviewing the history of communication theory from an anthropological point of view, focusing especially on the nature and location of meaning, I present evidence from Scripture that demonstrates that God does use the same communication conventions when communicating with human beings that humans use when communicating with each other. A discourse-level analysis of Scripture reveals that God's desire for a relationship with all people is the underlying metatheme of Scripture. That analysis includes a discussion of: (1) God's purpose in creation, (2) the Old Testament covenants, (3) the symbolic language of the Old Testament, (4) the incarnation of the Word, (5) the ministry of Jesus, (6) the establishment of the New Covenant, (7) Paul's ministry of reconciliation, and (8) the symbolic language of the New Testament.

요약 : Since God's basic communicative intent in Scripture was to inform those he created of his desire for relationship with them, that theme must permeate theological reflection, linking theology with the missio Dei, providing an impetus for mission.
초록/해제
요약 : The metatheme of Scripture must also permeate hermeneutical assumptions, so that interpretation of God's message grows out of his basic communicative intent. The biblical metatheme must also be foundational in thinking regarding translation, so that God's basic message comes through clearly as it is re-communicated in each language.
