요약 : Recent studies have suggested that heterosexual couples can benefit from various religious behaviors and cognitions of partners (see Mahoney, 2010 for review). However, very little psychological literature examines how religious variables relate to positive functioning in same-sex couples. This study examined religious variables that are considered proximal (perceived sacred qualities, manifestation of God and joint religious activities) or distal (individual religiousness, religious homogamy) to the couple dyad and the association of these religious variables with same-sex partners' commitment and relationship satisfaction.
초록/해제
요약 : One hundred and fifty Christian partners in cohabitating same-sex couples completed online questionnaires measuring religious constructs related to themselves, their relationships and their couple functioning. Separate hierarchical linear regression analyses indicated that items measuring sanctification of one's romantic relationship (e.g., perceiving one's relationship as sacred) predicted both relationship satisfaction and commitment to one's relationship over and above other religious variables. Additional analyses revealed that partners who had obtained a legal couple status (e.g., marriage, civil union, domestic partnership), and/or were raising children, and/or had a commitment ceremony celebrating their unions were more religious, engaged in more joint religious activities, and saw God as manifest in their relationship to a greater degree than partners who were simply cohabitating.

요약 : In addition, associations between proximal and distal religious constructs, relationship satisfaction and commitment were analyzed and reported separately based on gender (male vs. female), and religious affiliation (gay-friendly vs. traditional). This study contributes to both religious and LGB literature in that it provides the first quantitative findings of positive associations among religious aspects of one's relationship, satisfaction and commitment in same-sex couples. Findings have implications for therapists and clergy, and in social justice contexts.
