- 요약 : The goal of this study was to examine the extension of Wilson's thesis of declining of significance of race on predicting Black attitudes (compared with Whites) toward government spending on social welfare state programs. Socioeconomic status (education, total family income, and subjective class identification) and demographic variables (race, age, gender, political party affiliation, place of residence, region, and period of years) were identified as explanatory factors of the level of support for government spending on social welfare state programs.

- 요약 : Multiple regression ordinary least squares (OLS) were used to test the research hypotheses. The results of the multiple regression analysis for the general and subgroups population produce different conclusions. For the general population, the multiple regression analyses confirmed that the socioeconomic (education and total family income) and demographic predictors (race, gender, age, political party affiliation, region, place of residence, and period of years) were found to be associated with the level of support for government spending on social welfare state programs. The results of the statistical analysis of separate subgroup regression analysis for Whites and Blacks produce different conclusions. Among Whites, the socioeconomic status (education and total family income) and demographic explanatory variables were associated with the level of support for government spending on social welfare state programs. Among Blacks, educational attainment, political party affiliation, region, and place of residence were found to be associated with the level of support for government spending.

- 요약 : The empirical findings of this study provide little support for the extension of Wilson's thesis of declining significance of race on predicting Black attitudes (compared to Whites) toward government spending on social welfare state programs. However, race continues to be the most important explanation of Blacks' attitudes toward government spending on social welfare state programs.
