■520    ▼aProblem.  The  problem  of  this  study  was  to  determine  the  relationship  between  specified  variables  of  spiritual  maturity  and  empathy  among  Korean  Christian  counselors.  The  specified  predictor  variables  were  awareness,  instability,  disappointment,  grandiosity,  realistic  acceptance,  and  impression  management.
■520    ▼aProcedures.  The  subjects  were  153  of  the  Korean  Christian  counselors  who  attended  the  2007  annual  conference  of  the  Korea  Association  of  Christian  Counseling  and  Psychotherapy  in  Seoul,  Korea.  Multiple  regression  was  used  to  determine  the  relationship  between  Christian  counselor's  empathy  as  measured  by  Interpersonal  Reactivity  Index  (IRI)  and  six  predictor  variables  of  spiritual  maturity  as  measured  by  Spiritual  Assessment  Inventory  (SAI).  In  addition,  linear  regression  was  used  to  determine  the  relationship  between  scores  of  empathy  and  overall  scores  of  spiritual  maturity.
■520    ▼aFindings  and  Conclusion.  The  multiple  regression  procedure  found  that  awareness,  instability,  and  spiritual  maturity  were  significant  positive  predictors  of  empathy  at  the  .05  level  of  significance.  Instability  was  a  positive  predictor  instead  of  negative  predictor  of  empathy  as  originally  hypothesized.  Thus,  linear  regression  was  conducted  additionally  to  further  explore  the  relationship  between  instability  and  empathy.  The  result  of  linear  regression  showed  that  there  was  no  significant  relationship  between  the  variables.  The  other  four  variables  were  not  significant  predictors.  The  results  of  this  present  study  demonstrated  the  relationship  between  spiritual  awareness  and  empathic  ability  among  the  Korean  Christian  counselors.  Awareness  of  God  and  spiritual  maturity  were  found  to  be  crucial  factors  that  predicted  empathy.
