■520    ▼aThere  is  a  need  for  a  Christian  transcultural  model  which  is  designed  for  use  by  indigenous  pastors  throughout  the  world.  A  transcultural  model  is  one  that  a  pastor  can  adapt  to  his/her  own  cultural  norms.  Not  finding  such  a  model  proposed  in  the  literature,  this  dissertation  develops  criteria  for  a  Transcultural  model.  The  Appendix  contains  the  proposed  final  product  of  the  Transcultural  Pastoral  Counseling  Training  Model  (TC).
■520    ▼aIn  order  for  a  Christian  counseling  training  model  to  have  universal  application  it  must  meet  certain  criterion.  First,  it  must  be  based  on  universal  principles;  this  is  addressed  by  concentrating  on  the  three  common  processes  of  counseling  across  cultures.  Second,  it  must  be  culturally  adaptable;  this  is  addressed  by  providing  and  defining  the  organization  of  the  counseling  process  in  a  way  which  promotes  further  definition  by  the  cultural  experts  (indigenous  pastors).  Third,  it  must  be  based  on  the  scriptures;  this  is  addressed  by  basing  the  model  on  the  burden-bearing  metaphor  of  Galatians  6:1-6.
■520    ▼aTorrey's  universal  principles  of  psychotherapy  supply  the  foundation  of  TC  by  providing  three  universal  processes  of  counseling.  These  are  the  relational  component,  the  diagnosis/treatment  plan  component,  and  the  technique  component.  Each  of  these  components  is  further  organized  into  stages  by  using  meta-models.  The  level  of  organization  of  the  meta-models  is  designed  to  help  different  cultures  inform  the  model  and  adapt  it  to  their  own  norms  and  values.  The  burden-bearing  metaphor  of  Galatians  6  parallels  the  organization  and  universal  criteria  stated  above  and  is  used  as  the  scriptural  foundation  for  TC.  The  end  product  of  the  TC  is  found  in  the  Appendix  and  is  designed  to  be  the  foundation  of  a  pastoral  counseling  training  program  for  various  cultures.
