■520    ▼aThe  ethical  values  of  people  with  regard  to  business  affairs  have  been  a  sore  spot  in  the  trust  of  people  toward  the  business  sector  for  many  years.  To  explain  how  the  ethical  values  of  people  develop,  researchers  such  as  Piaget  and  Kohlberg  state  that  moral  development  is  a  multi-stage  process  that  begins  early  in  life  and  develops  well  into  adulthood.  Other  researchers  have  made  major  contributions  to  the  subject,  such  as  Gilligan  who  contends  that  women  are  more  “care”  oriented  than  men.
■520    ▼aThe  current  study  used  the  Professional  Business  Ethics  Scale  (Clark,  1966)  to  compare  the  values  of  college  freshman  based  on  their  secondary  educational  background  and  was  conducted  at  a  private  liberal  arts  college  whose  freshman  class  consisted  predominantly  of  graduates  from  public,  private  Christian,  and  home  schools.  Findings  indicate  that  the  business  ethics  values  of  home  school  graduates  were  significantly  higher  than  those  of  graduates  from  private  Christian  schools  or  the  public  school  system.  It  appears  that  the  continual  impact  of  parents  and  the  values  of  the  home  have  facilitated  strong  ethical  values  in  the  children.  These  values  should  aid  these  individuals  as  they  become  active  in  the  workplace.
■520    ▼aIt  was  found  that  the  ethical  values  of  female  college  freshman  are  higher  than  those  of  male  college  freshman.  Prior  studies  are  divided  regarding  the  impact  of  gender  as  a  factor.  It  was  also  found  that  college  seniors  have  higher  ethical  values  than  college  freshman.  Such  findings  are  consistent  with  other  studies.
