요약 : For my research, I engaged in theory development by exploring the process of spiritually-inspired lifework. I conducted in-depth interviews with six participants and spent a significant amount of time in the field to uncover the process by which participants identified and enacted their lifework. I also explored how the participants' lifework process affected their mental health.
초록/해제
요약 : I used grounded theory methodology to conceptualize and develop an evolving theoretical model. Consistent with the tenets of grounded theory, participants were selected who could either closely represent or counter the evolving model. Four of the participants described their lifework as spiritually-inspired and two did not.
초록/해제
요약 : An unexpected finding emerged. The participants who did not describe their lifework as spiritually-inspired experienced a similar process of change as those who described their lifework as spiritually-inspired. Their vocabulary, faith and depth of conviction as to their source of inspiration and the purpose of their work differed but all six were engaged in a similar process as they imagined, chose and followed a previously uncharted course. The participants who considered their lifework spiritually-inspired were engaged in a lifework process that entailed a dialogue between personal desire and sacred ideals. All six participants described a sense of life satisfaction or improved sense of wellbeing as they pursued their dream, calling or work for a higher purpose.
초록/해제
요약 : The developed theory consists of nine themes used to conceptualize the participants' lifework process. The themes include: setting a Guiding Intention, Re/Awakening Passion, Choosing Intentional Liberation and Sacrifice, Aligning with Source, Taking Action and Transforming Discord.
초록/해제
요약 : My research fulfills its three intended purposes. Firstly, the results address a critical gap in the spirituality-based mental health literature by exploring one pathway between spirituality and mental health. Secondly, the results address another important gap in the literature by studying spirituality as a dynamic process, rather than a static construct. Thirdly, I developed and introduced to the field, a theory that illuminates the process of spiritually-inspired lifework.
