요약 : Problem. The purpose of the study was to determine the difference in the use of spiritual disciplines among spiritual directors, Christians in social work, and pastoral counselors. Additionally, the study sought to determine the use of Christian disciplines in specified work settings and selected educational levels.

요약 : Procedures. The population consisted of 604 Christian mental heath practitioners from the southern region of the United States of America. The mental health practitioners were classified according to the national affiliation of their choice. Each practitioner was classified into one of three groups: spiritual directors, Christians in social work, and pastoral counselors. From each of the three groups, a sample was drawn systematically for this study. A packet was mailed to each selected practitioner containing a survey form and a demographic questionnaire. The respondents completed a Christian Counseling Technique Inventory (CCTI) and a Demographic Questionnaire (DQ). A one-way ANOVA was employed to test the differences in mean scores of CCTI use for professional affiliation, place of setting, and level of education. The Fishers Least Significance Test was used as a post-hoc test. The level of significance for this study was set at .05.

요약 : Finding and conclusion. Results revealed significant differences in CCTI score for professional affiliation and CCTI score for place of setting. There were no significant differences of CCTI for educational levels. The conclusion drawn from the study is that Christian mental health practitioners use spiritual techniques with clients in varying degrees. Some of the spiritual techniques were used more often than others. Practitioners in church settings used the techniques with greater frequency than those in private or public settings. Further research should investigate spiritual maturity, Christian values, effectiveness of specific spiritual techniques, training in religious subjects, and methodology in the use of Christian techniques with clients.
