요약 : Psychology has paid greater attention to religious and spiritual concerns in recent years. More individuals are seeking greater meaning and purpose in their lives and are bringing these concerns with them into psychotherapy. Thus, there is an increasing need for psychologists who are competent to deal with people's religious and spiritual struggles alongside other clinical concerns.
초록/해제
요약 : An individual may experience any number of spiritual crises throughout life. One type of spiritual crisis involves struggle with the divine. This study examined a specific divine spiritual struggle, namely the experience of feeling betrayed by God, by seeking to understand it as a phenomenon in people's lived experience.
초록/해제
요약 : The study employed the qualitative methodology of descriptive phenomenology to achieve its aim. This methodology seeks to understand human experience as it is lived by the individual. Furthermore, it emphasizes the discovery of the fundamental constituents that make up a particular lived experience and, wherever possible, revealing experience that is lived unconsciously by the individual.
초록/해제
요약 : The constituents of the structure of an experience of feeling betrayed by God are the basic findings of the study and are as follows: Failure to Meet or Live up to One's Expectations/Assumptions, Reaction to a Significant Event or Life-Long Difficulty, Experience/Expression of Strong Emotion/Anger, Challenge to One's God-image, and Healing Takes Time.

요약 : As more individuals arrive in therapy with religious and spiritual difficulties, it is important for psychologists to take these concerns seriously. In an effort to help psychologists work more competently with such concerns, it is recommended that education and training programs provide more opportunities for students to learn about religious and spiritual topics as they relate to psychology and psychotherapy.
초록/해제
요약 : Clinically, it is important that psychologists be aware of and make constructive use of transference/countertransference issues that may come up in therapy related to people's experience of the divine. In addition, it is important for psychologists to contain and help process an individual's strong emotions, especially anger, and work impartially, empathically, and patiently to help resolve one's experience of feeling betrayed by God.
