초록/해제: 요약 : The practice of solitude, loosely defined as an intentionally-pursued experience of time alone, has often been connected to various beneficial outcomes. Within the Christian religious tradition, solitude is identified as a spiritual discipline which facilitates the individual’s experiential contact with God. Various Christian texts have espoused the practice of solitude as one of the fundamental disciplines of the inner spiritual life. Little, if any, research exists that attempts an empirical exploration of this facet of solitude. This study, therefore, was an effort to begin an examination of the Christian spiritual practice of solitude as distinguished from other facets of solitude. Participants (N = 151) completed a series of questionnaires to assess various domains of spiritual solitude practice, attachment, and faith maturity. Results demonstrated a nuanced pattern of significant relationships between the practice of spiritual solitude, attachment insecurities, and faith maturity. Suggestions for future research and implications for religious leaders and mental health practitioners are discussed.
