■520    ▼aPROBLEM:  This  study  addressed  two  problems:  1)  to  determine  the  relationship  between  burnout  scores,  as  measured  by  the  three  subscales  of  the  Maslach  Burnout  Inventory-Human  Services  Survey  (MBI-HSS),  and  religious  coping  variables,  as  measured  by  the  Brief  Religious  Coping  Scale  (Brief  RCOPE);  2)  to  determine  the  difference  in  burnout  scores  of  lay,  pastoral,  and  professional  counselors  attending  the  2011  AACC  World  Conference.
■520    ▼aPROCEDURES:  The  sample  for  this  study  consisted  of  lay,  pastoral,  and  professional  counselors  attending  the  2011  AACC  World  Conference.  Of  the  survey  packets  returned,  295  were  deemed  usable  for  the  study.  Statistical  procedures  employed  in  the  study  were  multiple  regressions,  assessing  which  of  the  fourteen  religious  coping  methods  on  the  Brief  RCOPE  predicted  burnout,  and  ANOVAs,  assessing  the  difference  in  burnout  between  the  three  selected  groups.
■520    ▼aFINDINGS  AND  CONCLUSIONS:  The  first  null  hypothesis  tested  in  this  study  yielded  several  religious  coping  items  as  predictors  of  characteristics  of  burnout.  "Questioned  God's  love  for  me,"  negatively  predicted  depersonalization  (Beta=-.229;  alpha.05),  and  "felt  punished  by  God  for  lack  of  devotion"  (Beta=.308;  alpha.05)  positively  predicted  depersonalization.  "Asked  for  forgiveness  of  my  sins,"  (Beta=-.221;  alpha.05),  and  "questioned  God's  love  for  me,"  (Beta=.-.176;  alpha.05)  negatively  predicted  emotional  exhaustion.  "Looked  for  a  stronger  connection  with  God"  (Beta=.278;  alpha.05)  and  "wondered  whether  my  church  had  abandoned  me,"  (Beta=-.185;  alpha.05)  both  positively  predicted  personal  accomplishment.  The  negative  religious  coping  method,  "wondered  what  I  did  for  God  to  punish  me,"  negatively  predicted  personal  accomplishment  (Beta=.191;  alpha.05).
■520    ▼aIn  reference  to  burnout,  no  significant  differences  arose  between  the  three  identified  groups  for  depersonalization  and  emotional  exhaustion,  but  a  significant  difference  surfaced  for  personal  accomplishment.  There  was  a  significant  difference  between  the  means  of  professional  and  pastoral  counselors  (MD=2.2848)  and  professional  and  lay  counselors  (MD=3.1712).
