요약 : This study presents a rhetorical analysis of selected texts from Hebrew prophetic literature, particularly Isa 62:1-5 and 66:7-14, to establish a nonviolent and life-affirming model of redemption for Asian women. The preliminary study of Zion imagery in earlier prophetic literature shows that Zion, originally employed as a limited geographical reference in historical writings, is figuratively transformed into a synecdoche for the Temple Mount and Jerusalem. As Temple Mount, Zion is seen as the center of the universe (Isa 2:2-4; Mic 4:1-5; Jer 31:6), the abode of God (Isa 8:18; 24:23; Mic 4:7; Jer 8:19), and the place of abundance (Jer 6:2; 31:12; Isa 51:3). Zion is furthermore personified into many female guises such as a promiscuous woman (Isa 10:32; Mic 4:11), a woman crying in labor (Mic 4:10; Jer 4:31), and an abandoned wife (Isa 49:14).

요약 : Third Isaiah employs the figure of Zion in his description of redemption. In 62:1-5, Third Isaiah expresses redemption through the renaming speech and marriage metaphor. The renaming speech describes the change of Zion's status in her covenantal relationship with God, from 'abandoned' to 'my-delight-is-in-her' and from 'desolation' to 'married.' The marriage metaphor is used twice, once to describe the relationship between God and Zion and once to describe the relationship between Zion and the people. In this shared love among God, Zion, and the people, Zion plays a mediating role, bringing God and the people together. In 66:7-14, Third Isaiah describes redemption through the imagery of a mother who gives birth to a child and who comforts her children. The portrait of redemption through the birthing imagery directs the understanding of redemption as a process of creation.

요약 : Third Isaiah's appropriation of earlier traditions of Zion varies. First, unlike earlier prophets who within the marriage metaphor emphasize the husband's anger with the promiscuous wife, Third Isaiah interprets this metaphor from the wife's perspective, using it to understand the sorrow and pain of the abandoned wife. Second, unlike earlier prophets who use the woman in labor imagery to express the agony of people in the time of distress, Third Isaiah uses it as a fitting metaphor for the restoration of the people in Jerusalem. Third, Third Isaiah elevates Zion to the status of a partner of God the Redeemer. Zion plays a crucial mediating role and eventually becomes the vehicle that carries divine redemption.
초록/해제
요약 : Third Isaiah's vision of redemption in Isa 62:1-5 and 66:7-14 sets forth a model theology of redemption for Asian feminists; this vision is intrinsic to female sexuality and depicts redemption in terms of turning women's suffering into joy. Third Isaiah's understanding of redemption validates the approach of Asian feminist theology in three ways. First, the suffering of women is the starting point of Asian women's theology of redemption. Second, people are the subject in the process of redemption, working in partnership with God the Redeemer. Finally, redemption is not understood as a finite action of delivering a person out of oppression but as a journey in which individuals continue to work for wholeness in communion with God.
