요약 : The purpose of this dissertation is to reevaluate the significance of the triad (the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow) in Deuteronomy. Utilizing Mikhail Bakhtin's concepts of dialogism and chronotope (a literary represented world as the fusion of time and space), this study investigates the significance of the triad through an analysis of its dialogic interaction with the people of Israel in diverse chronotopes represented in Deuteronomy as a whole.
초록/해제
요약 : Compared to other underprivileged groups in Deuteronomy such as the poor, the debtor, the day-laborer, and the slave, the triad is mentioned the most often in Deuteronomy, and in various situations. This triad in Deuteronomy is mostly understood in scholarship as a passive object deserving of charitable activity. However, noting that this type of dependency works when the people of Israel settled in the inherited land. I examine how the triad is shaped in chronotopes other than that of settlement in the land. The outcome of this study is that the significance of the triad oscillates between the helpless group in need and the preserving life-force that represents the grassroots of the people of Israel.
초록/해제
요약 : Not much explicit information regarding the triad as a whole is available from the Hebrew Bible. However, the significance and the role of the triad emerge through an examination of how the triad is related to other groups within the people of Israel in Deuteronomy. In accordance to the qualitatively different chronotopes, the triad is differently shaped in its interactions with the people of Israel. Through this dialogic interaction in varying chronotopes, the triad emerges as the group that preserved the identity of the people of Israel when the people of Israel was in its most vulnerable situation.
