■520    ▼aThe  purpose  of  this  dissertation  is  to  investigate  the  meaning  of  Deuteronomy  18:15-22,  especially,  the  meaning  of  'the  Prophet  like  Moses,'  in  the  context  of  the  Pentateuch,  to  examine  its  inter-textual  relationship  with  34:10-12,  and  also  to  see  how  these  last  verses  of  the  Pentateuch  (34:10-12)  with  their  link  to  the  last  paragraph  of  the  Prophets  (Mal  3:22-24)  contribute  to  the  understanding  of  the  final  shape  of  the  Hebrew  Bible,  the  TaNak.
■520    ▼aChapter  one  defines  the  issue  that  this  dissertation  is  going  to  investigate  and  presents  "compositional  analysis"  as  the  methodology  that  the  present  work  is  going  to  employ  when  approaching  the  biblical  text.  We  also  set  forth  as  our  basic  criteria  for  doing  compositional  analysis  the  criteria  outlined  by  Shimon  Bar-Efrat.
■520    ▼aChapter  two  surveys  the  history  of  interpretation  of  Deuteronomy  18:15-22  during  the  past  two  millennia.  Its  endeavor  is  to  show  that  the  messianic  interpretation  of  the  prophet  like  Moses  that  the  present  writer  advocates  has  a  rich  tradition  behind  it.
■520    ▼aChapter  three  deals  with  issues  related  to  understanding  the  book  of  Deuteronomy  as  a  whole.  We  have  set  forth  the  basic  form  of  Deuteronomy  by  using  the  term  "Torah."  We  also  have  shown  the  meaning  of  the  term  "Torah"  as  used  in  Deuteronomy  that  it  describes  a  "way  of  life,"  and  incorporates  a  wisdom  theme.
■520    ▼aChapter  four  involves  the  exegetical  work  on  Deuteronomy  18:15-22  in  the  larger  context  of  the  Pentateuch.  We  also  examine  Deuteronomy  34:10-12  in  relation  to  18:15-22  and  as  viewed  in  light  of  the  final  shape  of  the  TaNak.  In  doing  so,  we  have  concluded  that  the  "Prophet  like  Moses"  in  Deuteronomy  18  refers  to  a  messianic  eschatological  figure  who  will  bring  new  Torah,  as  Moses  did,  in  the  future.  And  we  have  observed  that  this  is  also  the  view  that  the  writer  of  Deuteronomy  34:10-12  shares  at  the  end  of  the  Israel's  history  when  the  final  shape  of  the  TaNak  takes  place.
