■520    ▼aThe  goal  of  my  dissertation  is  to  suggest  a  theoretical  basis  for  witness-oriented  worship  in  the  Presbyterian  Church  of  Korea  (PCK).  In  general,  the  witness  of  the  PCK  is  becoming  powerless  and  is  thus  facing  a  time  of  stagnation.  Even  though  the  members  of  the  church  do  the  work  of  witness,  non-believers  are  not  being  led  to  the  church  effectively.  In  fact,  many  of  them  have  a  negative  impression  of  the  church  and  its  members.  Therefore,  one  of  the  most  crucial  needs  of  the  church  is  to  equip  members  to  be  genuine  witnesses,  and  this  work  can  be  done  effectively  through  witness-oriented  worship.
■520    ▼aTo  achieve  this  purpose,  first  I  deal  with  ecclesiology  in  order  to  understand  the  relationship  between  worship  and  witness  as  two  main  ministries  of  the  church.  The  church  is  a  kingdom  people  who  have  been  called  to  participate  in  the  fulfillment  of  God's  kingdom  ministry  in  this  world.  As  a  kingdom  people,  the  church  needs  to  hold  worship  and  witness  in  a  good  balance.
■520    ▼aIn  the  third  and  fourth  chapters,  I  examine  the  relationship  between  worship  and  witness  in  the  Bible.  When  God  provided  the  worship  law,  he  intended  to  provide  "a  context  for  equipping  Israel"  toward  effective  and  powerful  centripetal  witness.  Jesus  and  Paul  also  taught  that  worship  was  to  continue  to  result  in  witness  and  worship  should  be  a  main  context  whereby  witnessing  people  were  to  be  nurtured.  In  the  fifth  chapter,  I  probe  the  relationship  between  worship  and  witness  from  a  kingdom  perspective  and  I  express  the  relationship  of  a  "hermeneutical  circle"  where  worship  and  witness  are  oriented  toward  and  support  each  other.
■520    ▼aOn  the  basis  of  this  outcome  of  the  study  regarding  this  relationship,  I  analyze  the  relationship  in  the  Reformed  tradition  and  the  Presbyterian  Church  of  Korea  to  see  how  much  the  two  ministries  of  worship  and  witness  have  been  linked  in  the  churches.  As  I  performed  the  historical  analysis,  I  recognized  that  worship  in  the  PCK  shows  a  tendency  toward  self-centeredness.  In  relation  to  this  tendency,  the  conclusion  of  my  study  is  that  worship  of  the  Korean  Presbyterian  Church  must  be  transformed  from  self-oriented  worship  toward  witness-oriented  worship.
