The process of leaving the ministry- [e-book]

초록/해제: 요약 : Many ministers enter into vocational ministry with a sense of calling. In spite of their sense of calling many ministers leave vocational ministry. The experience of leaving vocational ministry may be a complex and traumatic experience. The purpose of the study was to address the lack of understanding about the process of ministers leaving vocational ministry by exploring the perceptions and experiences of ministers who have experienced the phenomenon of leaving. This study relied on a qualitative grounded theory design. Purposeful, snowball, and theoretical sampling procedures were utilized. Participants were 10 ministers who worked full-time in vocational ministry in local congregational settings. Data were collected using a standardized open-ended interview approach. This study revealed that leaving was a two-type cyclical process that involved physical separations and emotional-cognitive separations. Physical separations involved internal conflicts that led to final straw moments. Emotional-cognitive separations involved experiences of distancing, validation, and cognitive reframing.
