요약 : The affects of trauma permeate relational systems today. Congregational settings are not immune to these affects, and have potential to be remarkable locations for healing. Starting from a relational theory of trauma, this project proposes a normative ecclesiology that demonstrates how toxic emotional affects of trauma are ameliorated through acts of caring companionship within congregations. Intersubjective phenomena are viewed herein as foundational to developing the response-ability that is essential to healing. Studies of intersubjective phenomena engage inhibiting growth patterns rooted in trauma, in light of both the care seeker and the caregiver's subjectivities, bringing inherent multiplicity to bear as previously negated others emerge into personal realms of being sensed after trauma. As persons develop capacities for care through intersubjective facilitative environments, persons became better able to respond to trauma.

요약 : For Protestant Christians, that ability characterizes being a good neighboru. Practices like attuned liturgy, emotionally-safe fellowship, skilled pastoral care, and informed biblical interpretation cultivate economies of care that exemplify what leading traumatologists see as essential to healing: ability to recognize and witness what remains after trauma. Caring witness instigates internal transformations that enable persons to face life. To explore these possibilities in greater depth this study identifies a trajectory of healing that addresses present and transgenerational affects of trauma, explores theoretical and philosophical frameworks for developing personal capacities to respond, and examines capacities for biblical hermeneutics and congregational praxis. It also identifies instances where congregational activities may compound perceptions of trauma, rather than relieve them.

요약 : Care relationships bear witness to the fecund environments that enable persons to live more wholly as multiple-selves-in-relationship. Pastoral theologians, constructive theologians, and clergy, today offer critical relational frameworks and models for understanding the aftermath of trauma and how to develop capacities to care and be present within congregational settings in ways that effect healing. This dissertation identifies the ranging lenses theology, therapeutic analysis, biblical studies, and praxis, in order (1) to underscore ways that personal and transgenerational post-trauma affects can shape the contours of family and congregational patterns, and (2) to offer practical maps for facilitating faithful economies of care.
